JUST STARTING YOUR CAREER OR THINKING ABOUT A NEW ONE?

Every two years, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH). CLICK HERE to get the 2010-2011 edition.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives. For hundreds of different types of jobs—such as teacher, lawyer, and nurse—the Occupational Outlook Handbook tells you:

  • the training and education needed
  • earnings
  • expected job prospects
  • what workers do on the job
  • working conditions

In addition, the Handbook gives you job search tips, links to information about the job market in each State, and more. You can also view frequently asked questions about the Handbook.

SEARCHING ONLINE JOB POSTINGS?

It is a fact that only 10% of the jobs found today are secured through online postings.

The Career Successions program stresses the need to look outside of these highly-competitive sites, however, it is always a good way to understand the level of need within specific industries and certainly does provide a source for leads.

NEED A SALARY CALCULATOR?

It is often helpful to understand the median, or average, salary for a specific job title.

Especially when changing industries or even careers, often knowing a range will help you determine your desired income and whether the job you desire meets your financial needs.
